A boil water advisory has been issued indefinitely for portions of Park Vista subdivision in Opelousas due to a sewer improvement project, according to a Monday night press release.

Residents who live on Wilson Drive, Charles Avenue and John Walter Street inside Park Vista are affected by the advisory, which indicates that city water normally used for drinking, cooking and making ice should be heated until it reaches a rolling boil for about one minute in order to ensure city customer safety, the press release said.

The press release said the three streets affected on Monday temporarily also experienced a cutoff of water service on Monday due to work being conducted on the sewer project.

Mayor Julius Alsandor said in the press release that areas of Park Vista and other parts of the city may eventually experience similar temporary discontinuance of water service and boil advisories as other upgrade projects begin.

City Hall Meeting

Meanwhile an announced Monday night press conference at Opelousas City Hall was canceled several hours before the meeting was scheduled to begin.

The purpose of the canceled meeting was not included in the original meeting agenda announcement.

Also no reason was provided in the separate press release for canceling the Monday night meeting.
