Chamber Faces Busy Schedule

It appears there will be no shortage of activities scheduled over the next few months for members of the St. Landry Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber CEO and director Lori Dupuis told Opelousas Noon Rotary Club members on Tuesday that the organization is moving forward with an aggressive membership campaign and several other sponsored events that include a ladies’ luncheon, a stock the community pantry and a tangles and tinsel celebration. 

On Thursday night one of the highlight events for the Chamber is the annual Horses And Harmony awards banquet scheduled at the Louisiana Equine and Events Center on Harry Guilbeau Road.

Dupuis told the Rotarians that at this point she considers Horses And Harmony to be a sold-out occasion.

Chamber Membership

During the year the Chamber assists with annual high school scholarships. The Chamber also uses membership revenues to provide for a junior leadership camp, a youth leadership council and participation in Leadership St. Landry.

Horses And Harmony

The Chamber plans to provide a lifetime membership award in addition to awards for horseman and musician of the year, non-profit of the year and several annual best business awards based on their sizes at Horses and Harmony, Dupuis told St. Landry Now.com.

Memberships

Teams of chamber members are scheduled to perform a Sept. 21 outreach campaign by telephone in order to recruit more chamber business participation, Dupuis said.

At this point the Chamber has 207 members, but Dupuis said she hopes to retain that number of participants and increase it.

The Chamber membership features several levels of financial participation, said Dupuis.

Other Events

Dupuis said a Stock The Pantry campaign is set for Sept. 10.

The 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. effort to continue restocking the pantry at the corner of Court and Vine streets will include a $25 gift card while supplies last, to individuals who provide donations.

Gift cards will be provided to persons on a first-come, first-serve basis.

An annual women’s luncheon at Evangeline Downs is set for Oct. 14, while the tangles and tinsel event is also scheduled at the events center for sometime in November, Dupuis said.
