OPD Provides Update and Extends Condolences Following Market & Church Street Shooting

Opelousas, LA — Investigators with the Opelousas Police Department have provided an update in the shooting that occurred at the intersection of Market Street and Church Street.

Investigators learned today at approximately 4:52 p.m. that the victim succumbed to the injuries sustained during the shooting. The Opelousas Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this extremely difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers remain with them as they grieve this tragic loss.

As a result of the victim’s death, investigators will be upgrading the charge from Attempted Second Degree Murder to Second Degree Murder.

Dominique Trotter has been arrested and charged in connection with this investigation. However, investigators are actively searching for a second suspect, identified as Kurtell Gallien.

Gallien should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information regarding Gallien’s whereabouts is urged to contact authorities immediately.

Law enforcement reminds the public that any individual caught harboring or assisting Gallien in evading arrest can and will face criminal charges.
