Georgia picked up 51-of-52 first-place votes and remained No. 1 for the ninth consecutive week after defeating LSU in the SEC Championship. Michigan remained No. 2 after winning the Big Ten Championship against Purdue and received the other first-place vote.


TCU dropped one spot to No. 4 after its 31-28 overtime loss to Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship, while Ohio State was idle on conference championship weekend and benefited from TCU’s loss by moving up two spots to claim the No. 3 ranking. Kansas State moved up two spots to No. 9 after the upset victory against the Horned Frogs.


Last week’s No. 4 team, USC, fell seven spots to No. 11 after its loss to Utah in the Pac-12 Championship. Utah’s upset victory over the Trojans moved the Utes up five spots to the No. 7 ranking. Clemson remained No. 10 after winning the ACC title against North Carolina.


UCLA dropped out of the poll completely after being idle. Tulane returned to the poll for the second time in school history after its win vs. UCF in the American Athletic Championship, claiming No. 14. LSU fell to No. 15 after losing to Georgia.


The SEC and Pac-12 led all conferences with four teams each, followed by the Big Ten with three, the ACC and Big 12 Big with two, the American Athletic Conference with one.
