Health consciousness and prevention were clearly evident Saturday morning in South City Park during the annual Opelousas General Health System-hosted Community Health And Resource Fair.
Individuals utilized the outdoors opportunity to explore the one-mile walking trail winding through the park in order to affirm their fitness, while those seeking to perhaps monitor an overall health profile received free blood pressure, skin cancer and mental health screenings.
The event that in multiple ways resembled a health awareness mall lined with information booths and tables, was held in conjunction with CASA and the St. Landry-Evangeline Sexual Assault Center
A health walk through a portion of the park began the three-hour initiative that featured health care workers and providers suggesting methods that can be used to achieve health deficiency detection before emergencies develop.
Zydeco and Hip-Hop music blared from the speakers could be heard from all three approaches to the park boulevard, as those in attendance cruised the scene and selected venues that included CPR demonstrations and cancer detection information provided by Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
Second Harvest Food Bank delivered information and food samples from its distribution program, while first responders like Med-Express displayed a presence.
