Homecoming Pranks
“This is the time of year where homecoming events are happening throughout the parish. It has
been customary that certain pranks are expected to happen. Whether throwing toilet paper on
trees or property, signs with funny slogans, or other mischief, there have been incidents that
have gone too far. Over the weekend, students from a nearby high school drove by homes and
decided it was a good idea to discharge firearms. One of our deputies’ homes was struck
numerous times, striking the wall where his one-year-old daughter was lying. This could have
ended in an indescribable tragedy; not only for the family of the child, but for the person who
committed the act. This criminal act would constitute Negligent Injuring, or at worse,
Negligent Homicide, which is punishable by imprisonment for not less than two nor more
than twenty years at hard labor. Discharging firearms from a moving vehicle is one of the
most reckless and dangerous things that can be done. Shooting firearms randomly in the air is
the next most dangerous and has resulted in death and countless property damage.”
“Parents, speak to your children about this. If you need assistance from our staff in getting the
message out, we are here ready to serve. Let’s do everything possible to make every
homecoming event a safe and memorable one for everybody.”
