St. Landry and St. Martin Sheriff’s Offices Conduct Joint Narcotics Operation

Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz reports, “On September 10, 2026, narcotic detectives received information that
multiple individuals within St. Landry Parish were in possession of and distributing a fairly new drug known as
MBMA-4EN-PINACA. This is a dangerous synthetic cannabinoid classified as a Schedule I Controlled
Dangerous Substance. This particular form of MBMA-4EN-PINACA is a liquid that is placed into vape
cartridges and subsequently inhaled.”
Sheriff Guidroz continues, “On September 23, 2026, detectives with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office
Narcotics Division began actively investigating the information received on this drug and area activity. During
the investigation, detectives learned that MBMA-4EN-PINACA, commonly referred to as “Gerb”, has been
associated with serious medical consequences, including multiple hospitalizations and is suspected in at least
one death outside St. Landry Parish. The investigation revealed that two individuals residing outside St. Landry
Parish were working together to supply this drug to multiple individuals within St. Landry Parish. Phone
numbers were obtained to the suspected suppliers and contact was made. From this, it was learned that the
suppliers lived in St. Martin Parish. Our narcotics detectives, in an undercover capacity, arranged to purchase
some 20 bottles of “Gerb” and finalized the location for the buy at a convenience store in Breaux Bridge. This
operation was coordinated with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office and their narcotics detectives, criminal
detectives and Violent Crime Task Force officers. The operation ran like clockwork and St. Martin Parish
deputies arrested the target of the investigation, Jared Helaire.”

Sheriff Guidroz concludes, “This operation resulted in the seizure of over 500 grams of “Gerb” and has
provided significant intelligence information on the activities involving this illegal drug. The coordination and
continuous communication between our agencies serve as a testament to effective law enforcement. We thank
the St. Martin Parish Sheriff Becket Breaux, their Narcotics Division, Criminal Investigative Division and their
Violent Crimes Task Force.”
