Sub freezing temperatures didn’t stop the Martin Luther King Jr. birthday celebration parade from rolling through the streets of Opelousas Monday afternoon. Leaving from Sputh City Park the parade rolled down. Market Street for the two plus mile trip to Holy Ghost Catholic Church where the parade ended prior to the start of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration and memoriam inside Holy Ghost Cathollic Church. The parade was cheered on by the brave souls that lined both sides of Market Street. The cold weather didn’t stop their enthusiasm as the kids scampered to catch the candy thrown by the many trucks, cars and wagons that made up the parade. Serving as parade marshal for the 42nd annual parade was local businessman Pat Fontenot. A special recognition was given to Rebecca Henry for being the organizer of the parade and memoriam honorings the birthday of Rev. Martin Lulther King Jr.
