St. Landry Parish District Attorney (27’h JDC)

A St. Landry Parish Grand Jury reviewed two separate murder cases Tuesday and returned indictments on both matters.

According to District Attorney Chad Pitre, the first case involved the shooting death of Clarence Mitchell just two weeks ago in Eunice. The defendant, 35 year old Leonard James Miller, was indicted for 2nd Degree Murder after being arrested for the ambush-style shooting of the victim. Police reports indicate the victim was struck by gunfire while sitting in his vehicle and subsequently crashed into a house. The victim died the following day. Additionally, reports indicate a motive was a dispute over a female.

Also indicted yesterday was Lenny Dustin Bruce, 19, of Deridder for the 1st degree murder and armed robbery of Corey Rosette, Jr. on Valentines Day of this year. Mr. Rosette was found dead in his home on February 14, 2022. Opelousas Police arrested Bruce two weeks ago. This case involves another co-defendant, Jaleel Durrisseau, 19, who was indicted last month for his involvement in these crimes.

Pitre said, ” I urge all citizens to cooperate with police investigators. We need your help solving these violent crimes.”
