Opelousas Police Arrest Raketra Tyler for Second-Degree Murder in Narcotics-Related Death
Opelousas, LA – April 1, 2025 – The Opelousas Police Department has arrested Raketra Tyler for Second-Degree Murder in connection with a fatal overdose that occurred on August 27, 2024, in the 800 block of Lemoine Dr.
On the night of the incident, officers responded to a medical emergency and discovered a female victim unresponsive inside an apartment. Despite immediate life-saving efforts from medical professionals, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
During their investigation, detectives found evidence of narcotics use inside the residence and interviewed multiple witnesses. Investigators determined that Raketra Tyler had provided narcotics to the victim, which were later believed to contain Fentanyl—a powerful and deadly synthetic opioid. Based on their findings, an arrest warrant was issued for Ms. Tyler, who was located and taken into custody on March 29, 2025. During an interview with investigators, Ms. Tyler admitted to providing the narcotics on the night of the victim’s death.
