Opelousas Police Department Makes Arrest in Pharmacy Burglary Attempt

February 19, 2025 – Opelousas, LA – In the early morning hours of February 18, 2025, at approximately 1:07 a.m., an officer with the Opelousas Police Department observed a male suspect attempting to break into Lagniappe Pharmacy, located in the 1700 block of South Union Street. Upon the officer’s approach, the suspect fled the scene, abandoning his vehicle, which was parked at an abandoned residence nearby.

Upon investigation, it appeared that the suspect had injured himself during his attempt to gain entry into the pharmacy. Officers began a search of the area, which led them to a male subject several blocks away who matched the description of the suspect. The individual was identified as Jean Anderson, and he was arrested without further incident.

Jean Anderson, a resident of 2232 Ledoux Circle, Opelousas, LA, was charged with Attempted Simple Burglary of a Pharmacy and Resisting an Officer.

Following the arrest, investigators executed a search warrant on Anderson’s vehicle. The search revealed evidence linking him to burglaries at Glenn’s Pharmacy and another pharmacy in Evangeline Parish. The Opelousas Police Department has since notified the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department, providing them with the evidence collected, which will aid in their ongoing investigation.

Chief Graig Leblanc praised the patrol officers for their keen observation and swift actions in locating the suspect involved in this crime. “Thanks to the diligence and persistence of our officers, we were able to apprehend the suspect and gather critical evidence to support further investigations,” said Chief Leblanc.

The Opelousas Police Department is urging anyone with additional information regarding this case to contact them at (337) 948-2500.
