OPD Homicide Arrest Update – November 7, 2024
Victim: Jaleel Marquis Guidry, 29 years old
Suspect(s): Gerard Jevaris Griffin Jr., 23 years old
Suspect #2: Finecia Renee Draper, 49 years old (Mother of Gerard Griffin)
Opelousas, LA – The Opelousas Police Department (OPD) is providing an update on the
ongoing investigation into the homicide of 29-year-old Jaleel Marquis Guidry.
On November 7, 2024, the OPD arrested Gerard Jevaris Griffin Jr., 23, in connection with the
death of Mr. Guidry. Griffin is charged with First Degree Murder. Evidence gathered during
the investigation led authorities to Griffin as the primary suspect in the fatal shooting of Mr.
Guidry.
Additionally, Finecia Renee Draper, the 49-year-old mother of Gerard Griffin, was arrested and
charged with Obstruction of Justice. Authorities allege that Draper interfered with the
investigation by providing false information to investigators and attempting to hide evidence
related to the crime.
Both suspects are currently in custody at the St. Landry Parish Jail. The Opelousas Police
Department continues to work diligently to gather additional information and pursue further
leads in this case.
