OPELOUSAS POLICE DEPARTMENT MAKES MULTIPLE ARRESTS IN CONNECTION WITH RECENT SHOOTING INVESTIGATIONS

The Opelousas Police Department has made several arrests in connection with multiple shootings that occurred on Wednesday night on Shute Street, Short Street, and in the area of Jefferson and Ballard Lane. Investigators believe these incidents are related.

During the investigation, detectives determined that the shooting on Shute Street stemmed from a dice game. Investigators learned that as a vehicle was leaving the area where the game was being held, a male suspect—identified as Kore Johnson—fired multiple shots at the vehicle. Although no injuries were reported, an arrest warrant was obtained for Johnson on charges of Illegal Use of Weapons and Dangerous Instrumentalities and Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property.

Later that evening, officers responded to a second shooting in the area of Jefferson and Ballard Lane. Upon arrival, officers located several spent shell casings in the roadway and discovered that an occupied apartment had been struck by gunfire. Two unoccupied vehicles in the area were also damaged by gunfire.

Through information provided by concerned citizens and the use of the City of Opelousas pole camera system, investigators were able to identify the individuals involved. Detectives determined that Kore Johnson exited a vehicle and fired multiple shots into an apartment occupied by three individuals.

Johnson was arrested and charged with:

  • Three (3) counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder
  • Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property
  • Illegal Use of Weapons and Dangerous Instrumentalities

Mekhilygn Walker was also arrested and charged with:

  • Principal to Attempted Second Degree Murder
  • Principal to Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property
  • Principal to Illegal Use of Weapons and Dangerous Instrumentalities

Investigators identified a third suspect, Dakeithdien Jordan, as the driver of the vehicle used in the shooting. Jordan currently has active warrants for:

  • Principal to Attempted Second Degree Murder
  • Principal to Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property
  • Principal to Illegal Use of Weapons and Dangerous Instrumentalities

Jordan remains at large at this time. Anyone found harboring this fugitive will be arrested.

In a separate but related development, investigators have also made an additional arrest in the shooting that occurred on February 10, 2026, in the area of Truman and Mae StreetCameran Vidito was arrested and charged with Illegal Use of Weapons and Dangerous Instrumentalities. Two other individuals had been arrested earlier in that investigation.

Chief Graig LeBlanc would like to express his sincere appreciation to the community members who provided vital information that assisted detectives in making these arrests.

The investigations remain active, and additional arrests are possible.
