(Opelousas, LA) – The Opelousas Imperial Mardi Gras Association (OIMGA) is announcing Healthcare Heroes from throughout the community will serve as Grand Marshals for the 2022 Opelousas Imperial Mardi Gras Parade scheduled for March 1st. The Healthcare Heroes will be led by Pulmonary Specialist, Dr. Amer Raza. These community servants risked their lives and worked tirelessly through the COVID-19 pandemic to keep our community safe.
The Healthcare Heroes will include approximately 35 individuals represented by physicians, nurses, first responders, support personnel, housekeepers, dietary workers, and other medical sectors who stood courageously on the frontline during the pandemic. The Imperial Mardi Gras Association, who is hosting the float, says this is one way to show its sincere gratitude and appreciation to some of the dedicated individuals who worked tirelessly through these unprecedented times.
The parade, which happens Mardi Gras day, begins at 11 a.m. The parade will travel from East Landry near the Farmers Market area through downtown before ending at Landry and Liberty Streets. Also featured in the parade will be 2022 King Imperial III Jason Huguet and Queen Lily III, Vera Nagy and their Royal Court which includes DJ and Micki Carter, Bryan and Beth Nicholas, Travis and Ledricka Thierry and Joey and Rachael Mouret. Prior to the parade, the Opelousas Imperial Mardi Gras Association will host a ball on February 19th at the Delta Grand Theatre in Opelousas.
The Opelousas Imperial Mardi Gras Association celebrates, promotes, and facilitates cultural and heritage activities in Opelousas during and leading up to the Mardi Gras season by participating in and hosting a Mardi Gras Ball and Parade which are open to the public. The Association’s profits go towards charitable organizations in the Opelousas-St. Landry Parish area.
