The Lunch Rotary Club of Opelousas is up to some exciting things. Most recently their May 2nd luncheon featured guest speaker, Dr. David Hanson. Dr. Hanson is a board certified physician in medical oncology and internal medicine.

Dr. Hanson met with the Rotary Club of Opelousas to discuss the nature of an exciting relationship between Opelousas General Health and the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.

According to the Mary Bird Cancer Center website, the “Mary Bird Perkins and its partners work together to provide state-of-the-art treatments and unparalleled collaborative, comprehensive cancer services.”

This is a huge opportunity for the city of Opelousas to allow local residents access to current and state-of-the-art cancer treatment right in their own backyard. With the state of the economy, travel to-and-from larger cities with more advanced treatment centers, has become more of a luxury item than necessity. The residents of Opelousas will be serviced well by this newly announced partnership.

The Rotary Club of Opelousas was established in 1922, and aims to support the community of Opelousas through service. If you are interested in joining the Rotary Club of Opelousas contact them directly at (337) 945-6204, or reach out to a current member. Meetings are held weekly, on Tuesdays, during the lunchtime hour.
