Martha Aubert, Louisiana Orphan Train Museum board president, welcomed all Saturday to the annual gathering and open house of the museum. A line of visitors lined up at the front entrance anxious to view the history of the orphan train riders told in hundreds of photos and memorable items, such as some of the garments worn by the babies as they boarded the train in New York for their long journey to Opelousas and their new life with their adoptive parents in St. Landry Parish and surrounding parishes. A verse on the wall tells the story in simple terms. “Making their dreams come true, Louisiana parents opened their hearts and home to the many little children by providing a chance for a better life.”
