Maintenance Issues In Parish Jail Result In Injured Inmate
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz reports, “On Friday, January 2, 2026, an inmate at the St. Landry
Parish Jail attempted suicide. The inmate was able to use part of the metal ceiling tiles within
the cell, which have been rusted and damaged. We are grateful that no life-threatening injuries
occurred, much in part of the Suicide Watch Plan operating as planned.” Sheriff Guidroz
continues, “The damaged ceiling tiles were listed, along with many other repair-related items,
on a December 2025 Building Maintenance Inspection conducted by Sheriff’s Office
Correctional Staff. We understand that with only one maintenance employee, repairs cannot be
done rapidly. We would hope that Parish Government can find the manpower and prioritize the
much-needed repairs for the safety of the correctional staff and the inmates.”
