Project Safe Neighborhood Operation Nets Two Arrests

Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz reports, “As part of the “Project Safe Neighborhoods” grant, our
Narcotics Detectives, Patrol Deputies and CID Detectives were conducting surveillance at
Lucky’s Casino, just east of Eunice. During the course of this operation, detectives observed a
white male start a motorcycle using what appeared to be a knife. After the motorcycle was
loaded onto a trailer, a second white male entered a blue Chevy pickup. Upon entering U.S.
190 eastbound, they were followed by detectives. A traffic stop was conducted on North Sixth

Street near Opelousas for a minor traffic violation. The investigation resulted in a search of the
vehicle, where a Hi-Point 9mm pistol was recovered under the driver’s seat. The driver,
identified as Joseph Mistric, is a convicted felon and on parole until 2035. The passenger,
identified as Troy Mouton, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and a Schedule
II controlled dangerous substance.” Sheriff Guidroz concludes, “Our no-tolerance policy on
illegal drugs and illegal possession of firearms is absolute. We will continue to utilize all our
resources and personnel to combat this problem and arrest those who participate in it.”
