A sizable crowd gathered underneath breezes from the Michel Prudhomme Home oak trees Sunday afternoon for several hours of food and fun during the second annual Picnic On The Lawn event.
The fund-raising event hosts by the non-profit Preservationists of St. Landry, Inc., preceded a scheduled signature historic marker dedication at the home featuring Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser Tuesday at 4 pm.
On Sunday the crowd which began entering the Prudhomme lawn around noon, spent their time networking and discussing the history and architectural upgrades for the 234-year home, whose history includes hosting the transition of Louisiana from France to the United States and serving as a camp ground for Union troops during the civil war.
The guests who purchased tickets for the picnic, ate a chicken salad lunch that included ginger cookies and fruit. A variety of beverages that included water, wine and lemonade was served.
Those attending the event were treated to tours of the home and were advised on the scheduled maintenance projects set to begin later this year.
