The Opelousas Pregnancy Center held its annual Geaux the Extra Mile run on Saturday in South City Park, supporting its mission to help provide abundant life for mothers and babies.
This is the third year-running the local non-profit organization has held for the community giving running-enthusiasts and non-runners a chance to join in a family-fun event that supports a local cause.
A total of 84 participants came out to take part in either the 5K or 1-mile fun run through Downtown Opelousas ranging in ages from stroller-riding participants to the more seasoned runners. Participants who completed the 1-mile and 5K run with the best time were presented awards for Top Overall, and Male and Female winners in each age category from Under Age 12 to Over 70.
Immediately following the run was a Life Festival for all to enjoy with live music provided by J.C. Melancon, vendors from local organizations and food vendors, and fun games and activities for the kids.
The Opelousas Pregnancy Center provides services that support mothers and babies through free classes, pregnancy tests, first trimester ultrasounds, and a mommy and baby boutique all provided free for expecting mothers and new moms through fundraising events and donations by the community.
