PROCLAMATION 

RESOLUTION NO. 014-2026 

CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL VACANCIES IN THE OFFICES OF 

CONSTABLE, JUSTICE OF THE PEACE DISTRICT 4; CONSTABLE, JUSTICE OF THE PEACE DISTRICT 19; AND CONSTABLE, JUSTICE OF THE PEACE DISTRICT 11 

WHEREAS, an insufficient number of individuals qualified as candidates for the offices of: 

1. Constable, Justice of the Peace District 4, Parish of St. Landry; 

2. Constable, Justice of the Peace District 19, Parish of St. Landry; and 

3. Constable, Justice of the Peace District 11, Parish of St. Landry; 

WHEREAS, vacancies therefore exist, or will exist, in these offices for the terms commencing in January 2027; 

WHEREAS, Louisiana Revised Statutes 18:583 and 18:602 authorize and require the appropriate governing authority to issue a proclamation ordering a special election to fill such vacancies and to specify the primary election, general election, and candidate qualifying dates; 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the St. Landry Parish Council, acting as the governing authority of the Parish of St. Landry, State of Louisiana, that: 

SECTION 1. SPECIAL ELECTION CALLED 

A special election is hereby called and ordered to fill the vacancies in the following offices: 

1. Constable, Justice of the Peace District 4, Parish of St. Landry; 

2. Constable, Justice of the Peace District 19, Parish of St. Landry; and 

3. Constable, Justice of the Peace District 11, Parish of St. Landry. 

Each person elected shall serve for the remainder of the applicable unexpired term and until a successor is elected and qualified, as provided by law. 

SECTION 2. QUALIFYING PERIOD 

Candidates seeking election to any of the offices identified in Section 1 shall qualify on: 

Wednesday, January 13, 2027; 

Thursday, January 14, 2027; and 

Friday, January 15, 2027, 

during the times and at the location prescribed by the Louisiana Election Code and the appropriate election officials. 

SECTION 3. PRIMARY ELECTION 

The special primary election shall be held on Saturday, April 17, 2027. 

SECTION 4. GENERAL ELECTION 

If required, the special general election shall be held on Saturday, May 29, 2027. 

SECTION 5. CONDUCT OF ELECTION 

The special election shall be held and conducted in accordance with the Louisiana Election Code, Louisiana Revised Statutes 18:1 et seq., and all other applicable constitutional and statutory provisions. 

The appropriate election officials are authorized and directed to take all actions necessary to conduct the election, canvass and promulgate its results, and perform all related duties required by law. 

SECTION 6. PUBLICATION AND TRANSMITTAL 

Immediately following the issuance of this proclamation, it shall be published in the official journal of the Parish of St. Landry as required by law. 

Within twenty-four hours after issuance, certified copies of this proclamation shall be transmitted by certified or registered mail to: 

1. The Louisiana Secretary of State; and 

2. The Clerk of Court for the Parish of St. Landry. 

SECTION 7. EFFECTIVE DATE 

This proclamation shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and execution. 

THUS DONE AND PROCLAIMED at Opelousas, Louisiana, on this 

day of August

2026, following its adoption by the St. Landry Parish Council at a duly convened public meeting.
