THE ST. LANDRY PARISH COUNCIL HEREBY GIVES NOTICE THAT IT WILL HOLD A
PUBLIC HEARING ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19
TH, 2025, AT OLD CITY MARKET
LOCATED AT 131 W. BELLEVUE STREET, OPELOUSAS, LOUISIANA.
THE HEARING IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECEIVING ANY AND ALL OBJECTIONS
FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN CONNECTION WITH THE FOLLOWING:

AN ORDINANCE TO REQUIRE THE PAYMENT IN FULL OF ANY AND ALL
ST. LANDRY PARISH GOVERNMENT LIENS ON ADJUDICATED PROPERTY
WHEN THETAXDEBTOR ISMAKINGPAYMENTTOTHETAXCOLLECTORTO
REDEEM THEIR PROPERTY
WHEREAS, the St. Landry Parish Code Sections 2-289, 2-290, and 2-291 provide for the
redemption of adjudicated properties.
WHEREAS, Louisiana Revised Statute Section 47:2243 provides, “Redemptions shall be
made through the tax collector of the appropriate political subdivision…. Payment shall
include all statutory impositions accruing before the date of payment with five percent
penalty and simple interest accruing at one percent per month, as well as all other sums
required to be paid pursuant to this Subpart;”
WHEREAS, Louisiana Revised Statute Section 47:2244 provides, “Payment also shall
include the actual costs incurred by the political subdivision for preparation and filing of
redemption certificates, the cost of mail, notice, publication of notice, personal service of
notice, appraisal, and costs associated with the determination of tax sale parties and their
notification. However, the actual cost of preparation and filing of redemption certificates
shall not exceed two hundred dollars. The political subdivision may also require the
payment of all amounts accrued under other governmental liens as of the date of payment;”
WHEREAS, the St. Landry Parish Government has incurred and continues to incur costs
related to adjudicated properties, for which governmental liens are filed and recorded on
the property;
