Looking Ahead – Eunice High has finished as either district champion, co-champion or runner up the last four seasons. This year could be no different, but the Bobcats are inexperienced in key positions, including both sides of the line and at receiver. The non-district schedule is tough, with Jennings, Northwest, Kinder and Welsh.
Looking Back: A couple of plays made a difference in a season where Eunice could have finished 8-2. Eunice still reached the regional round with a veteran team.
Preseason Standouts: Montana Brown (QB), Bryan Allen (FB-LB), Thaddeus Godfrey (RB), Brighton Leday (CB-WR), Tyler Collins (RB-DB).
Offense: Wing-T
Defense: Multiple
What Does The Coach Say? “We have a lot of depth in the offensive backfield, but we lost a lot of players up front. We are going to spend the next couple of weeks trying to find those linemen we need. Defensively we lost the four linemen up front. We have pretty good experience with our offense, but not having those experienced blockers is just going to make it harder for them,” – Andre Vige
What Are The Players Saying? “Last year was my first as a starter and in the first two weeks it was kind of up and down for me. After that I think I was able to get better control of what we were doing offensively. This year I would like to pass the ball more. People think the Wing-T is a running offense, but you can do a lot of throwing off of it.” – Montana Brown
What Are The Players Saying? “I started out with the team as a linebacker and I switched to running back two years ago. Right now I am enjoying being the team leader and set the example. It gets our guys hyped.” Bryan Allen
Further Review – Eunice has perhaps set the standard in St. Landry for football stability. The program also has created a head coaching tree whose roots date back to the late 1970’s. Johnny Bourque. Paul Trosclair, Dale Guillory, LeQuintin Lamb and Dwight Collins are four current area head coaches who have been Eunice assistants. Once again the Bobcats will tweak the EHS traditional Wing-T to suit the personnel and succeed. Once Eunice gets linemen in the right place, the Bobcats will be fine in 2024. Check out the season opener as Northwest goes to Eunice.
