St. Landry Now: We’re Still Here

BOBBY ARDOIN

It will be five years on Monday that St. Landry Now, the only locally-owned parishwide news source officially began operation.

What the creators and owners of the news website didn’t realize then, is that despite not having corporate backing and limited start-up capital, we would still be operating at a high level and providing daily news content in 2026..

The three remaining investors of the LLC operation that operate the website  — Carola Ann Hartley, Freddie Herpin and Bobby Ardoin — have worked tirelessly to provide stories that we hope have kept St. Landry Parish residents interested and intrigued in a parish that continuously provides unlimited story opportunities.

To say that things have been easy since unveiling the St. Landry Now.com product – completely online and accessed at no cost  – would be inaccurate.

Much of the parish population has also experienced difficulty in believing that news can be delivered accurately and easily online. Many snickered and gave us no chance at surviving.

Others seemed to hope we would fail.

A great number of individuals we have encountered over the past five years are still experiencing a print news derangement — that is, regretting the demise of a daily newspaper where they turn pages to read stories.

Well, we can’t help them with that problem. Print news unfortunately is becoming more difficult to produce due to rising overhead costs.

People have asked us to start a print edition. However initial and sustaining costs are too exorbitant to even consider that option.

No, we are not on Facebook. Why not? The answer to that is simple: There is too much misinformation platformed on Facebook and there are too many unflattering comments posted by those who use and abuse it.

In order to save expenses, our publication has chosen to produce news remotely, from places other than a traditional brick and mortar address.

Some people are surprised to learn that there has been an online publication operating now for five years. We just tell them we are sorry, but they have missed out on great stories and photographs that have illustrated St. Landry information and sports since 2021.

For those of you who are aware of what we do, keep reading.

And to all of our advertisers of the years, we appreciate your support. You are the reason we continue to exist.
