Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz reports, “Just before 6 p.m. on 04/02/2026, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s
Deputies responded to Current Lake Lane, just east of Port Barre on a complaint of someone
shooting a pistol that was taken from a home. Upon their arrival, it was learned that Jerome
Benoit was alleged to have entered a neighbor’s home, removed a revolver and began firing it
outside. Benoit is then reported to have returned to his home and continued firing a weapon
inside. The Sheriff’s Office SWAT Unit was notified, supplemented by members of the
Narcotics Division and immediately took control of the situation. Despite Benoit’s failure to
cooperate and his continued endangerment of himself and others, the Deputies were able to take
Benoit into custody.” Sheriff Guidroz continues, “I cannot begin to express my pride in the
SWAT Unit, our Narcotics Detectives and our Crisis Response Team in their ability to work
together to resolve the various difficult and dangerous events that unfold in our parish. I want
to also thank the Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries
who supported this operation.”
Anyone with additional information about this crime is encouraged to call the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office
