3 DEFENDANTS, 3 JURIES LEAD TO 2 LIFE SENTENCES &
30 YEARS JAIL TIME
Judge Jason Meche sentenced three men today following a busy two-month period of
jury trials in St. Landry Parish.
Emery Savoy Jr., 58, was sentenced to 30 years at hard labor without the benefit of
probation, parole, or suspension of sentence. In November, a jury found Savoy guilty of
multiple counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile and sexual battery of a juvenile.
On December 11, Sa’Davion George—17 at the time of the crime—was convicted of
the first-degree murder of Roderick Aaron. Aaron was shot and killed in the middle of the
afternoon on March 27, 2023, at the corner of South Union and Franklin streets in Opelousas.
No testimony was presented at the sentencing hearing, and Judge Meche imposed a
mandatory life sentence. Because George was a juvenile at the time of the offense, he may
apply for parole after serving 25 years at hard labor, provided statutory conditions are met.
District Attorney Chad Pitre stated, “George has several violent crimes still pending in St.
Landry Parish, and we have every intention of prosecuting his remaining matters.”
Finally, Tevin Jenkins was convicted by a unanimous jury in a Ramos retrial for the
2016 second-degree murder of Rodney Joseph Savoy. This marked Jenkins’ second
conviction for the crime; his first conviction was reached by a non-unanimous 10–2 jury.
Judge Meche imposed the mandatory life sentence without probation, parole, or suspension
of sentence. The court heard emotional testimony from Savoy’s girlfriend, who was pregnant
at the time and hiding in a closet as Jenkins fired 28 rounds into the home, ultimately locating
and killing Savoy in his bedroom.
