It was breakfast, boudin and biscuits mixed with updates from businesses around St. Landry Parish Thursday morning as members of the Parish Tourist Commission convened for a monthly networking meeting at the historic Michel Prudhomme Home in Opelousas.

Herman Fuselier, executive director of the Commission, spoke on efforts to deter littering parishwide and commented on the closing of the Jean Lafitte National Park center in Eunice due to the federal government shutdown.

James Douget, president of the Preservationists of St. Landry, Inc., the volunteer group which has owned the Prudhomme Home since 1975, addressed the historic significance of the home built in the 1790’s and detailed recent efforts by the organization to refurbish the structure located on Pudhomme Circle.

Fuselier noted that Louisiana Wildlife employees now possess the authority to issue fines and penalties for littering.

The Jean Lafiitte Center located on Park Avenue in Eunice, plays a vital role in cultural events for the Tri-Parish area that includes St. Landry, Fuselier said.

Douget reminded the 29 people in attendance that the Preservationists hold fund raising events that provide revenue for roof, water distribution, painting, and second story gallery repairs.

Now that the gallery has been stabilized, Douget said the Prudhomme home now has the versatility to host more events.
