The downpour that drenched Westminster Christian Academy at the conclusion of the District 5-1A track meet Friday night failed dampen nearly four hours of Crusaders’ dominance.
Westminster easily won team championships in both the boys and girls divisions as the Crusaders head into the regional meet next week in Basile.
WCA outdistanced second place J.S. Clark Leadership Academy in the boys competition, while the Crusaders’ girls matched that effort in the girls’ results against runner up St. Edmund.
The Crusaders also significantly qualified at least one individual in each boys and girls event for the regional meet.
Long distance runner Magnolia Henrich provided 30 points for the Westminster girls, after claiming first places in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meters.
That effort was nearly matched among the boys’ competitors, as WCA’s Owen Melancon provided 28 point with first places in the 1600 and 800 meters. Melancon also cruised to a second place in a close and rain swept 3,200 meters race won by Jackson Soileau of Sacred Heart-Ville Platte.
Laila Gauthier finished first in the 100 meters (13.28) and won the long jump (15-7).
Westminster’s boys also claimed first places in all three relays, while the Crusaders’ girls finished second in two relays and claimed the top place in the 4×100 event.
Myjah Wilson of WCA finished second in the triple and high jump, while the Crusaders’ Kenzi George (35-1 feet in the triple jump) took another first place.
The JS Clark girls featured a pair of first places in the throwing events.
Nevaeh Redditt, a defending state champion, won the shot put (35-6 1/2 inches). The first place by Redditt was complemented by the first-place discus throw of Tristanie Albert (100-4).
Kaven Joseph provided key performances for North Central, which finished third in both the girls and boys team results.
Joseph finished second in the distance and shot put, while Joseph placed fourth in the javelin.
