Week 6: OHS, NWHS, SEHS Win

Northwest High and St. Edmund continued moving through their district schedules without a loss on Friday night, while Opelousas High prepared for the start of league play with a Thursday night victory at Natchitoches Central.
In other games involving St. Landry Parish teams, Beau Chene (1-5, 0-1) was defeated 39-0 at Livonia, while Eunice (0-6, 0-1) also lost a district opener at home against DeRidder.
Port Barre lost a fourth straight at Avoyelles (32-27) to open league play and North Central (1-5, 1-2) dropped a league game at Catholic Pointe-Coupee (62-6).
Host Westminster Christian Academy beat Opelousas Catholic (42-25) in a District 5-1A game.
Northwest
Although Northwest is 2-0 in District 4-3A, the Raiders, who defeated Ville Platte 42-0 on Friday, still have key district opponents Church Point and Iota remaining on the schedule.
Northwest (4-2) is at Church Point (4-2, 2-1) this Thursday night, while the Raiders host Iota in Week 10.
Against winless Ville Platte, Northwest used 33 plays (9.7 yards-per-play) to compile 322 total yards. Running back Ke’Von Johnson reached the 1,000-yard mark with a 219-yard rushing performance and a pair of touchdowns.
St. Edmund
St. Edmund (6-0, 3-0), defeated Berchmans Academy 56-14 in a District 5-1A game. The Blue Jays, who continue to average over 50 points, host Sacred Heart in another key league contest this week.
Quarterback Kane West completed 3-of-5 passes for the Jays and one touchdown in the win over Berchmans (1-5, 0-2). Henry Summerlin ran four times for 88 yards.
Summerlin has rushed for 799 yards this season, while West has thrown for 917 and 15 touchdowns.
Quarterback Aiden Barousse completed 17-of-28 passes and 143 yards for Berchmans. Two of the Barousse passes were for touchdowns. Ethan New caught six passes for 66 yards.
Opelousas
Opelousas High (2-3) led 26-6 at the end of the third quarter in a game played at Northwestern State’s Turpin Stadium, but surrendered a pair of fourth period touchdowns to the Chiefs during the final 6:25.
The 26-18 victory over NCHS erased a two-game losing streak for Opelousas, which begins district play this Friday night at Livonia (1-5, 1-0).
Tigers’ running back De’Shaun Ford scored three touchdowns against the Chiefs, while the other OHS score came on a 29-yard throw from quarterback Zack Malveaux to wide receiver Korey Fontenot.
The Opelousas High defense kept Natchitoches out of the end zone on four of five red zone attempts.
