Twenty-Two Participants Complete Louisiana Master Cattleman Program in Opelousas
On Thursday June 13,2024, the latest class of Master Cattleman completed their final class and joined a long list of participants who have completed the Louisiana Master Cattleman Program. The Louisiana Master Cattleman Program is offered in each of the five LSU AgCenter regions across the state. It was developed to help beef and forage producers enhance their production and profitability. Participants completed a total 30 hours of instruction, spread out over a 10-week period in three hour blocks, covering beef cattle and forage topics by experts from the LSU AgCenter. The topics of the classes were: animal health, nutrition, reproduction, breeding and selection, animal handling, beef quality assurance, pasture agronomy, weed management, economics and marketing, and end products. This class had participants with cattle operations spanning multiple parishes, including Avoyelles, St. Landry, Evangeline, Acadia, and Lafayette. We would like to thank those who sponsored meals and shirts throughout the course: St. Landry Cattlemen’s Association, Covered C Feed Mill, Progressive Tractor Implement (Opelousas), and LA Land & Dirt.
