The Opelousas Catholic baseball team is headed to the state tournament for the second time in three seasons after defeating Catholic High-Pointe Coupee 3-2 in a Division IV select Quarterfinal playoff game Thursday at Gene Mills Memorial Field.
Pitcher Taylor Hollier won his second playoff game of 2023 and OCS beat a CHPC team that defeated the Vikings 1-0 during the regular season.
OCS is scheduled to meet top-seeded Ouachita Christian Tuesday at McMurry Stadium. The contest is set to begin at 2 p.m. in Sulphur.
The Vikings were eliminated in the first playoff round last season, but OCS was a state finalist in 2021.
Ouachita Christian defeated St. Mary’s 2-1 in the regional round before beating No. 8 Covenant Christian 7-0 in order to advance to the state tournament.
Third-seeded Glenbrook and No. 2 Ascension Catholic are the other Division IV select teams remaining in the playoffs.
