Victor Lewis is formally announcing his candidacy for the Opelousas District A Alderman seat in this upcoming fall’s election. With incumbent Milton Batiste steeping down after becoming Saint Landry Parish School Board’s Superintendent, the election will be held this October.
Lewis, son of Dolly and the late Joseph John Lewis III has two children and has been married to Tiffanie Lewis for 23 years. He is a graduate of Opelousas High School and T.H. Harris Technical College. Lewis, also holds a Bachelor’s degree from Southern University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M in Texas. He is a small business owner and a United States Veteran in support of Operation Desert Storm/Shield.
Lewis is co-founder of JS Clark Leadership Academy where he works as Principal. He also held the position of Civil Service Commissioner as appointed by Grambling State University for the Opelousas Civil Service Board.
“I feel that my education, real life experiences, and professionalism will be a great asset to the citizens of Opelousas,” Lewis said. “I have been involved in politics since I was nine years old and am excited to represent the citizens of District A.”
Lewis continued, “We are potentially at a peak time of progress for the city of Opelousas and at the helm of this progress will be the city council which is why I’m stepping forward to be a pivotal game changing component of this progress.”
He stated that his ideas include building a stronger bond between the Civil Service Board and Council in order to compensate city employees for their services rendered. Lewis, also said that he would like to assist in developing other areas of Opelousas outside his district such as the West end of town in which he feels is prime for growth and has been neglected.
Furthermore, Lewis states he will work with the council, mayor, school administrators and chief to assist in implementing public safety programs that will hopefully ensure the respect and safety for all citizens.
