While the North Central girls’ basketball team is one win away from another state tournament appearance, three other St. Landry Parish playoff programs ended their seasons during regional round games played Monday night.
North Central, which received a first-round bye after being seeded No. 2 in the Class 1A bracket, opened the postseason with an 81-51 regional round victory over Montgomery.
The decision enables the Hurricanes to host No. 10 Grand Lake in a 6 p.m. state quarterfinal matchup on Thursday. Grand Lake qualified for the quarterfinals with a 51-36 victory over No. 7 Oak Grove on Monday night.
North Central bolted to an early lead over No. 15 Montgomery. The Hurricanes outscored Montgomery 23-5 in the first period and easily led the remainder of the game.
The Hurricanes were led by the scoring duo of Ya’Jaia Goudeau and Katelyn Harrison. The pair of shooters combined for 46 points. NCHS also received scoring from Destinee Davis (18 points) and Bethany Taylor (15).
Other Monday Night Games
Opelousas, J.S. Clark Leadership Academy and Northwest High all ended their seasons will road game defeats.
Northwest, the parish girls’ champion and a Class 3A finalist in 2021, lost to No. 6 Mansfield (46-35).
Opelousas was seeded 13t . The Tigers seeded No. 13 lost to No. 4 South Lafourche (44-13), while Clark was defeated by No. 1 Hathaway (93-43) in a Class B regional.
