Five St. Landry Parish basketball teams remain undefeated within their districts, as the 2021-22 basketball season enters the final weeks of the regular season.
Beau Chene, Northwest and North Central high schools remain at the top of their districts in the boys’ divisions
For the girls North Central and Opelousas High are also without a loss as the start of the postseason begins this week.
Undefeated Boys teams
Beau Chene, ranked No. 9 in Class 4A last week, is 4-0 in District 6-4A after ending the first round with a 66-57 victory over Opelousas High on Tuesday night.
The key scorer for the Gators against Opelousas was 6-foot-3 sophomore Camron Pierre (15 points) as Beau Chene improved to 21-5 overall.
Northwest, which started the week ranked ninth in Class 3A, has defeated Mamou, Church Point, Pine Prairie and Iota in District 5-3A as the first round of league games came to a close.
The Raiders are 15-8 overall.
North Central remains the No.1 team in Class 1A. The Hurricanes are also 4-0 in District 5-1A under first-year coach Basil Brown II after beating Westminster Christian, St. Edmund, Opelousas Catholic and Catholic High-Pointe Coupee in district games.
NCHS (21-7) has scored no fewer than 81 points in the four district victories.
Undefeated Girls Teams
The North Central girls are 19-7 overall and ranked second in Class 1A. The Hurricanes defeated Catholic-Pointe Coupee 75-32 on Tuesday night.
NCHS has also defeated OCS (57-34), St. Edmund (55-40) and Westminster (74-54).
Opelousas High in a second season under head coach Josh Cador, is 3-0 in 6-4A.
Unlike the three previous seasons when Opelousas featured high scorers, this season’s Opelousas team is winning district games with defense.
In their three victories, No. 15 Opelousas (13-11) has allowed no more than 34 points a game.
