Attempted 2 nd Degree Murder
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz reports, “On May 28, 2025, deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the
Cardinal Inn Motel, 12012 Hwy 190, Opelousas, LA. Upon their arrival, deputies found the room vacant, but a
blood trail led them to a mobile home behind a storage facility near the hotel. There deputies found the victim
with an apparent gunshot wound to her chest. The victim was transported to Opelousas General and
subsequently transferred to Lafayette General Hospital, where she is expected to make a full recovery.” Sheriff
Guidroz continues, “Detective Kennedy was called out and was able to identify the alleged suspect as
Demouchet. It was stated by the victim that she and Demouchet had obtained the motel room, a disagreement
ensued and Demouchet left the room. A short time later, Demouchet returned, an argument started and
Demouchet is alleged to have shot the victim in the chest.” Sheriff Guidroz concludes, “A quick response by
responding deputies likely saved the victim’s life. A thorough investigation resulted in an immediate capture of
the suspect. All in all, a job well done.”
