Shooting Incident at North City Park Leads to Two Arrests

Opelousas, LA – On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at approximately 7:57 PM, officers with the Opelousas Police Department responded to a call regarding a shooting incident in the 1700 block of Rodney Milburn Blvd., located in North City Park.

Upon arrival, officers were informed that the suspects involved had fled the scene in a vehicle. Thanks to the quick response and cooperation of several eyewitnesses, officers were able to obtain detailed descriptions of the vehicles involved. That information, along with surveillance footage from the area, played a critical role in advancing the investigation.

After reviewing video surveillance, officers observed two individuals engaged in a verbal altercation. Through further investigation, the individuals were identified as Christopher Esquivel and Kevin Rosette.

It was determined that Mr. Esquivel brandished a handgun and pointed it at another individual but did not discharge the weapon. Shortly after, Mr. Rosette was seen retrieving an AR-15 style rifle from another individual and firing two rounds into the ground. Officers recovered two spent casings at the location consistent with where Mr. Rosette was observed firing the weapon.

Both Esquivel and Rosette were located and arrested without incident. They were each charged with:

  • Illegal Use of Weapons and Dangerous Instrumentalities
  • Aggravated Assault with a Firearm

A Message from Chief Graig LeBlanc:
