UPDATE: MULTIPLE SHOOTING INVESTIGATIONS – ARRESTS MADE

The Opelousas Police Department is providing an update on two separate shooting investigations that occurred within the city limits of Opelousas, Louisiana.

First Incident – Wallior Street Shooting (October 2, 2025):
Investigators have made a second arrest in connection with the shooting that occurred on Wallior Street.
John Veal has been arrested and charged with the following:

  • (1) Count – Principal to Attempted First Degree Murder
  • (1) Count – Principal to Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities
  • (1) Count – Principal to Assault by Drive-by Shooting
  • (1) Count – Principal to Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property

Investigators believe that Mr. Veal was driving the vehicle at the time of the shooting, which is believed to have been in retaliation for a prior shooting that occurred on August 4, 2025.

Second Incident – Shooting Near SLCC (October 7, 2025):
Investigators have also made an arrest in a separate shooting that caused South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) to go on temporary lockdown as a precaution.
Tyrek Allison has been arrested and charged with:

  • (1) Count – Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities
  • (2) Counts – Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property
  • (1) Count – Armed Robbery with the Use of a Firearm
  • (1) Count – Aggravated Battery

Detectives were able to obtain crucial evidence linking Allison to his involvement in the incident.

Chief Graig LeBlanc would like to extend his sincere appreciation to the public for the valuable information provided to investigators, which directly assisted in making these arrests possible.
