OPD PROVIDES UPDATE ON RECENT SHOOTING INVESTIGATIONS 
Over the past week, the Opelousas Police Department has investigated six (6) separate incidents involving the discharge of firearms within the city limits. Through the swift work of our officers and investigators — and the assistance of our community — arrests have been made in three (3) of these cases, arrest warrants have been issued in one (1), and two (2) remain active investigations.
February 9, 2026 – Caddo Street (11:00 p.m.)
Shots were reported in the area. No injuries or property damage occurred. Officers recovered physical evidence confirming a firearm was discharged.
Investigation remains active.
February 10, 2026 – Mae & Truman Streets (5:30 p.m.)
A disturbance between two groups led to gunfire. No injuries or property damage were reported.
Arrested: 18-year-old D’Shawn Malik Green
Charge: Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities
Additional arrests are expected.
February 10, 2026 – 1700 block of S. Washington Street (6:00 p.m.)
Officers in the area heard a gunshot and stopped a vehicle leaving at a high rate of speed. Investigation revealed a firearm had been discharged following an argument.
Arrested: 29-year-old Nakeela Renee Joseph
Charge: Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities
February 11, 2026 – 1400 block of W. Park Avenue (9:00 p.m.)
A victim reported her vehicle was struck by gunfire after an encounter with occupants of a gray SUV. Using surveillance technology, officers positively identified those responsible.
Arrest warrants have been issued
Names are being withheld at this time due to ongoing investigative steps.
February 12, 2026 – 800 block of Capri Alley / “Brickyard” area (3:00 a.m.)
An adult male sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body and is believed to have been the intended target. Evidence was collected and surveillance is being reviewed.
Investigation remains active.
February 12, 2026 – Sapphire & Grolee Streets (6:00 p.m.)
Witnesses helped officers identify the individual responsible for firing multiple shots. The firearm was located and seized.
Arrested: 17-year-old Jamyren Andres
Charge: Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities
Chief Graig LeBlanc and the Opelousas Police Department would like to thank the citizens who continue to provide critical information that helps us make timely arrests and keep our community safe.
Reminder: Any discharge of a firearm within the incorporated limits of the City of Opelousas can result in serious criminal charges. The risk to innocent lives and property is extremely high, and these cases will be pursued aggressively.
Reducing gun violence remains a top priority for the Opelousas Police Department.
