The Opelousas Police Department continues to make significant progress in multiple investigations involving recent incidents of gunfire. The reduction of gun violence remains a top priority, and investigators are actively pursuing those responsible.
February 11, 2026 – 1400 Block of W. Park Avenue (9:00 p.m.)
Officers responded to a report of a vehicle being struck by gunfire following an encounter with the occupants of a gray SUV. Through the use of surveillance technology and investigative techniques, officers were able to positively identify the individuals responsible.
UPDATE:
Warrants have been issued for the arrest of:
Freddie Lewis Jr., 42 Freddie Lewis III, 23
Both individuals are wanted on the following charges:
1 Count – Attempted Second Degree Murder 1 Count – Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property
The Opelousas Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating these wanted individuals. Anyone with information regarding their whereabouts is urged to contact OPD.
February 10, 2026 – Mae & Truman Streets (5:30 p.m.)
This incident stemmed from a disturbance between two groups that escalated into gunfire. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage were reported.
Arrests to date:
D’Shawn Malik Green, 18
Charge: Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities
Tyrik Garlow, 17
Arrested for his involvement in the shooting.
Investigators are currently following up on several leads, and additional arrests are expected in this case.

Detectives remain actively working other reported incidents involving gunfire. As new information becomes available, updates will be released to the public.
