A ribbon cutting for what will perhaps become a permanent office for CASA Evangeline-St. Landry became a community event for more than 100 persons Wednesday afternoon.

The brick building on the corners of West Landry and North Market streets evolved into a two-parish celebration for the non-profit organization which advocates for children that need judicial assistance and volunteer monitoring.

Madelyn Rosette, the director for Evangeline-St. Landry CASA told the large crowd that she was surprised by the magnitude of the turnout, but added that she was grateful for the interest in the organization which handled 101 cases in 2025.

“It’s really a great even when the community turns up so strongly for our children,” Rosette told the crowd before leading the group photo opportunity which included a ribbon cutting ceremony provided by the Opelousas Chamber of Commerce.

Rosette introduced the CASA board members in addition to both state and municipal judges sometimes handle cases involving CASA-directed issues in both parishes.

Representatives from the State Supreme Court also provided remarks.

Rosette noted that April is recognized as child abuse month.
