Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz reports, “On April 30, 2026 a fight amongst students at Northwest High was
subsequently investigated by the School Resource Officers of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. This
investigation resulted in seven (7) students cited for fighting, a misdemeanor. One of the students, Orentheal
Sallier, Jr. does not attend Northwest, but was on the bus that dropped the other students off. A teacher stopped
the fight and directed Sallier back on the bus. Sallier is alleged to have committed a battery upon the teacher.
The investigation also revealed audio recordings of Sallier allegedly threatening violence with a firearm on
other students.” Sheriff Guidroz concludes, “While altercations amongst young people will happen from time
to time, the threatening of school violence with weapons should not and will not be tolerated. The safety of our
schools, students, teachers and staff will remain a top priority.”
