Port Barre town officials advised residents living along Bayou Courtableau on Saturday to begin making preparations to evacuate due to anticipated rising water.

The notice posted on the town social media page said that if residents choose to leave their properties, they should also make plans to secure their valuables and pets.

At this point the website notice indicated that residents living away from the bayou and inside the town limits should not have to worry about potential flooding.

However the notice also told residents to be vigilant, since the situation related to potential flooding should be considered a changing situation.

On Friday parish president Jessie Bellard warned that areas around Port Barre should be considered vulnerable to flooding, which is expected to start affecting parish areas beginning next week.
