Escape Attempt Thwarted
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz reports, “On October 16, 2026, corrections officers at the St. Landry Parish Jail
uncovered an attempt to escape from a third-floor cell. The cell had the lighting fixture removed at some point
by parish maintenance personnel, leaving only the metal electrical box in the ceiling. Inmates were able to
remove the box and use it and broken pieces of bed frame to chip away at the concrete blocks. The inmates had
not progressed very far before being discovered.”
Sheriff Guidroz continues, “This once again illustrates the lack of physical maintenance in the jail facility. This
particular cell on third floor has maintenance requests going back to 2021. The cell is now closed and unused
until the repairs are made. The inmates occupying the cell have been placed in isolation and the cell block is on
lockdown. Our investigation in the incident is ongoing.”
