WHEN: Thursday, December 8

WHY: Rural communities across St. Landry Parish face unique challenges made worse by the pandemic and natural disasters over the past two years. With 22% of residents living below the poverty line, St. Landry Parish has one of the highest food insecurity rates in the country. In addition, unemployment rates are high, with job opportunities across the parish mostly available in low-wage industries and the most vulnerable lacking adequate transportation to access vital services like hospitals and grocery stores. The summit will bring together community leaders, activists, and members to identify resources and solutions to address food insecurity across St. Landry Parish and eliminate health and economic disparities.
