St. Landry Parish Government Announces Burn Ban Effective Immediately
ST. LANDRY PARISH – St. Landry Parish Government has announced that a burn ban is now in effect
for the unincorporated areas of St. Landry Parish due to dry conditions and the increased risk of fires
spreading rapidly.
The burn ban prohibits open-air burning activities that may produce floating embers or create a risk of
uncontrolled fires. Residents are urged to exercise caution and comply with the restrictions to help protect
lives, property and surrounding communities.
Prohibited Burning Activities:
● Yard Debris and Vegetation: Burning leaves, grass clippings, tree branches, brush piles and other
yard waste.
● Bonfires and Campfires: Open campfires, recreational fire pits, fire rings, chimineas and other
outdoor wood-burning fires.
● Burn Barrels and Trash: Burning household garbage, cardboard, paper or other materials in open
containers or burn barrels.
● Fireworks and Incendiary Devices: Personal fireworks, sky lanterns and other activities that may
produce uncontrolled flames or embers.
Permitted Activities and Exceptions:
● Gas and Propane Grills: Enclosed gas, propane and natural gas grills or cooking appliances
equipped with an on/off valve.
● Charcoal Grills: Permitted only when operated in accordance with applicable fire safety
restrictions and with appropriate precautions.
● Authorized Work: Certain essential industrial or agricultural activities may be permitted when
conducted in compliance with applicable fire safety regulations and required approvals.
Agricultural and Controlled Burning:
Agricultural and prescribed burning activities may be permitted under applicable regulations and
authorized exceptions.
Individuals conducting authorized agricultural or controlled burns must report these activities to their
nearest fire district and 911 dispatch to ensure emergency personnel are aware of the activity.
