Please see the following note from the family of Ambassador James Joseph:

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ambassador James A. Joseph, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and public servant.
Ambassador Joseph left this life on Friday, February 17, 2023 due to complications related to kidney disease and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He was surrounded by his loving wife Mary Braxton Joseph, his son Jeffrey, his daughter Denise, and his daughter-in-law Lisa Merman.
The family is planning a private burial to be followed by a public memorial service in Washington, D.C. We greatly appreciate your prayers and support during this difficult time. Please understand if we are delayed in responding to your kind notes and expressions of sympathy.
With love, The James Joseph Family

Note: We just received this message from Juan Joseph with the Joseph family. James Joseph was a son of Opelousas, the brother of the late Mayor John Joseph who served this community for many years. James Joseph left Opelousas to become an important figure in our country’s history, working with presidents and other national and world leaders. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Joseph family as they mourn the loss of their father and uncle.

We will have more information on the death of Ambassador Joseph as it becomes available.
