Illegal Carrying of Weapons While Committing a Crime of
Violence
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz reports, “Just before midnight on May 8, 2026, the St. Landry Parish
Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a disturbance on Old Hwy 190 near Krotz Springs. It
was alleged that Raneill Cortez went to a residence near her home, threatened and shot at Mr.
Cody Soileau who was visiting a friend. Mr. Soileau received only minor injuries in the
altercation. This investigation is still active; I applaud the decisive actions by our Patrol
Deputies in the rapid resolution of this incident and apprehension of the alleged perpetrator.”
