ARREST MADE IN SHOOTING INCIDENT 

The Opelousas Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a shooting that occurred on March 26, 2026, at approximately 8:40 PM in the area of Overton Street and Martel Street.

Suspect: Joel Nimer

Charges:

  • Attempted Second Degree Murder
  • Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities
  • Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number

The victim was transported to a local hospital and is currently receiving treatment. Their condition remains unknown at this time.

This incident remains an active and ongoing investigation. Investigators continue to gather evidence and encourage anyone with additional information to come forward.
