 Club Celebrates Women’s Month

From Staff Reports

The Opelousas Women’s Club saluted Women’s Month last week with an annual program that included the historical accomplishments made by local women.

Opelousas City Judge Shaun Caillier, guest speaker for the event held at the women’s clubhouse on West Bellevue Street, emphasized in her presentation that women need to continue supporting one another and celebrating their accomplishments.

The program also recognized the contributions made by Opelousas women and club members during the last century.

Among the major events recounted during the program, was a World War II war bond effort when women’s club members raised enough money to pay for a bomber named, “Miss Opelousas.”

For many years the Opelousas Women’s Club sponsored an Opelousas beauty pageant.
