Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz reports, “On July 29, 2025 at about 10:46 pm, deputies responded to a shooting in
progress on Pleasant Run Road near Opelousas. While both Leonville Police Department and St. Landry
Sheriff’s Office were enroute, they were advised that a female victim was shot in the head by her husband.
Upon their arrival, officers learned that the suspect, Overton Roberts, had left the scene in a white Chrysler 300
sedan. Roberts discarded the pistol used in the grass prior to leaving the scene.” Sheriff Guidroz continues,
“We believe Roberts to be on the run, and desperately ask the public for any assistance in his capture or his
peaceful surrender. Our last information has the victim in intensive care and stable. We offer our prayers to the
family and victim.”
